Spatiotemporal OCT Method Advances Ophthalmological Imaging

Spatio-Temporal Optical Coherence Tomography (STOC-T), an ophthalmological imaging technique originally invented to capture optoretinograms, has been enhanced by its developers at the International Centre for Translational Eye Research (ICTER) to enable views of the retina and choroid at different depths. STOC-T will make it possible to image the retina in a fraction of a second and record the retina’s entire depth at extremely high resolution. According to the researchers, it will enable the clinician to fully image the eye before the patient has a chance to blink, and to obtain...Read full article

    Glossary
    optical coherence tomography
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technique used in medical and scientific fields to capture high-resolution, cross-sectional images of biological tissues. It provides detailed, real-time, and three-dimensional visualization of tissue structures at the micrometer scale. OCT is particularly valuable in ophthalmology, cardiology, dermatology, and various other medical specialties. Here are the key features and components of optical coherence tomography: Principle of...
    spatio-temporal optical coherence tomography
Spatio-temporal optical coherence tomography (ST-OCT) is an advanced imaging technique that combines the principles of optical coherence tomography (OCT) with spatio-temporal modulation methods to achieve high-resolution, real-time imaging of biological tissues and dynamic processes. Optical coherence tomography: OCT is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses low-coherence interferometry to capture high-resolution, cross-sectional images of biological tissues. It provides depth-resolved...
    ophthalmology
Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine that focuses on the anatomy, physiology, and diseases of the eyes and visual system. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of eye disorders and diseases. They are trained to provide comprehensive eye care, including medical, surgical, and optical interventions. Key areas within ophthalmology include: General eye care: Ophthalmologists perform routine eye examinations to assess visual acuity,...
