Solyndra Inc., a manufacturer of innovative cylindrical photovoltaic (PV) systems for commercial rooftops, announced it has signed a new long-term framework agreement with alwitra GmbH & Co., a supplier of roofing systems based in Trier, Germany. The solar panels will be manufactured at Solyndra’s facilities in Fremont and Milpitas, Calif. According to Solyndra, its cylindrical thin-film PV systems are designed to generate more electricity on an annual basis from typical low-slope commercial rooftops while offering lower installation costs than conventional flat panel PV technologies. When installed together with alwitra’s reflective roofing membrane, Solyndra said the electricity produced will be optimized and total installation cost reduced.
