Shimadzu Corp. of Kyoto, Japan, has named Takeshi Kawami as president of its American subsidiary, Shimadzu Scientific Instruments (SSI) of Columbia, Md., a maker of analytical instruments and environmental monitoring equipment. Kawami, a 24-year veteran of Shimadzu, replaces Osamu Ando, who served as SSI president for seven years. Kawami conducted analytical instrument sales in Tokyo, Yokohama, Shizuoka and Hiroshima, where he was promoted to sales manager. He returned to Tokyo in 2001 and was appointed president of a Shimadzu sales subsidiary in 2002. Kawami later became vice president of two merged sales subsidiaries.
