PORTLAND, Ore., March 1 -- Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics has signed a contract with The Boeing Co. to develop dual head-up display (HUD) systems for the US Air Force C-130 avionics modernization program. Boeing was selected by the USAF as the prime contractor to upgrade the avionics systems for more than 500 C-130 aircraft. The initial $11 million contract is for development and delivery of the first 16 HUD shipsets, with first delivery scheduled for October 2003. Flight tests are scheduled to continue through 2006, with full-scale production planned through 2013. The potential contract value for the dual HUD systems is in excess of $100 million. The HUD is part of a more than $400 million avionics package awarded to Rockwell Collins. Also included is its Flight2 6 by 8-inch multifunction displays and AN/ARC-210 radios, SAT-2000, multimode receivers, automatic direction finder and high-frequency data link upgrades.
