Since the unveiling of the quantum cascade laser (QCL) at Bell Labs in 1994, the technology has evolved — from being simply a cutting-edge field in pho­tonics research to being commercially available in the form of packaged lasers, QCL-powered scientific tools with control software, and robust integrated systems.
