BOSTON, Mass., Jan. 1 -- Researchers at Northeastern University (NU) announced they have been able to demonstrate the unique feature of imaging through a flat lens. Using the phenomenon of negative refraction through a novel photonic crystal, NU physicists observed that a flat slab of such material behaves as a lens and focuses electromagnetic waves at microwave frequencies to produce a real image. The research, published in a recent issue of the journal Nature in the article, "Imaging by Flat Lens Using Negative Refraction," is led be Srinivas Sridhar, PhD, from the department of physics and...Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaArticlesCytometer Detects Cancer Cell Subpopulations ConcurrentlyA new flow cytometry system could help scientists develop more targeted, personalized strategies for treating cancer by enabling them to follow disease progression and therapeutic response in...BioPhotonics Sep/Oct 2024 Issue$13.5M Project to Aid Photoacoustic Lung Cancer DiagnosisNortheastern University professor Soner Sonmezoglu has been awarded $13 million through the Advanced Research Project Agency for Health to lead a project developing photoacoustic imaging technology...BioPhotonics Nov/Dec 2024 IssueStandards Aim to Speed Market Arrival for Quantum Information TechDevices that capture light from quantum dots, like chip-scale lasers and optical amplifiers, have made their way from the lab to the commercial market.
