Photonics Integrated Interferometric System Simplifies High-Quality Imaging

CHANGCHUN, China, Dec. 20, 2021 — An imaging system based on interferometry called SPIN (sparse-aperture and photonics-integrated) could provide higher-quality imaging than other similar techniques, including segmented planar imaging detector for electro-optical reconnaissance (SPIDER). A research group from Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP), led by professor Xuejun Zhang, developed SPIN to advance interferometric imaging quality. The researchers’ latest system additionally simplifies the process of image reconstruction. The group used a Fizeau configuration for its interferometer...Read full article

    interferometer
An interferometer is a scientific instrument that utilizes the principle of interference to measure differences in the path length, wavelength, phase, or amplitude of coherent electromagnetic waves. It typically consists of components such as a light source (often a laser), beamsplitters, mirrors, and detectors arranged in such a way that multiple beams of light can be combined and analyzed. More about interferometers: Interference pattern: Interferometers generate interference...
