Infrared lenses and lens assemblies producer Ophir Optics Inc. of Wilmington, Mass., has inaugurated an 18,000-sq-ft facility that houses computer numerical controlled grinding, polishing and centering equipment as well as conventional polishing, diamond turning and optical coating tools. Environmentally controlled for temperature, humidity and air filtration, the plant accommodates testing capabilities such as profilometers, optical interferometers and computer-generated hologram interferometry. The company's lens designs incorporate aspheres and aspheric-diffractive components, which help to minimize the number of optical elements.
