Optical communications and laser products maker Oclaro Inc. announced Wednesday that it has acquired Mintera Corp., a privately held optical transport subsystems solutions provider in Acton, Mass., for an undisclosed amount. Oclaro said the acquisition will broaden its portfolio for high-speed telecommunications. The company will offer components and subsystems covering all the major modulation technologies necessary for high-performance 40 Gb/s data transmission in regional, metro, long-haul (LH) and ultralong-haul (ULH) networks. Dr. Terry F. Unter, Mintera’s president and CEO, has agreed to remain with Oclaro for a transitional period to lead the new 40/100 Gb/s modules and subsystems division. During that time, he and Oclaro President and CEO Alain Couder will explore a longer-term role for Unter on Oclaro’s executive management team, the company said.
