NEPEAN, Ontario, Sept. 30 -- JDS Uniphase Corp. reported the completion of a successful demonstration of a tunable 10-Gb/s transmitter module, which combines a high-power tunable laser and a lithium niobate modulator with compact driver electronics. JDS Uniphase designs and manufactures the tunable lasers at its semiconductor fabrication facility in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The company produces the modulators at its unit in Bloomfield, Conn. The tunable laser controls wavelength using a microprocessor control board developed by Altitun AB of Stockholm, Sweden. Plainfield, N.J.-based Veritech Microwave Inc. provided the compact 2.5- and 10-Gb/s driver electronics. JDS Uniphase planned to present the results of these demonstrations at the NFOEC telecommunications exhibit in Chicago, and at the ECOC telecom show in Nice, France.
