IQE Enters into Multiyear Epiwafer Supply Agreement with Lumentum

IQE plc, a supplier of compound semiconductor wafer products and advanced materials, signed a multiyear agreement with Lumentum for the supply of epiwafers supporting 3D sensing, lidar for automotive, and optical networking applications. Effective immediately, the agreement is focused on high-volume production of epiwafers that will be used across Lumentum’s portfolio of laser products, in particular to enable lidar for autonomous vehicles, where IQE will be the epitaxy partner of choice for this technology. IQE and Lumentum signed a multiyear agreement for the supply of...Read full article

    Glossary
    semiconductor
A semiconductor is a type of material that has electrical conductivity between that of a conductor and an insulator. In other words, semiconductors have properties that are intermediate between metals (good conductors of electricity) and insulators (poor conductors of electricity). The conductivity of a semiconductor can be controlled and modified by factors such as temperature, impurities, or an applied electric field. The most common semiconductors are crystalline solids, and they are...
    wafer
In the context of electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, a wafer refers to a thin, flat disk or substrate made of a semiconducting material, usually crystalline silicon. Wafers serve as the foundation for the fabrication of integrated circuits (ICs), microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), and other microdevices. Here are key points regarding wafers: Material: Silicon is the most commonly used material for wafer fabrication due to its excellent semiconductor properties, high purity,...
    lidar
Lidar, short for light detection and ranging, is a remote sensing technology that uses laser light to measure distances and generate precise, three-dimensional information about the shape and characteristics of objects and surfaces. Lidar systems typically consist of a laser scanner, a GPS receiver, and an inertial measurement unit (IMU), all integrated into a single system. Here is how lidar works: Laser emission: A laser emits laser pulses, often in the form of rapid and repetitive laser...
