IL MAKIAGE Acquires Computer Vision Startup

NEW YORK, Aug. 25, 2021 — Beauty company IL MAKIAGE acquired Voyage81, a deep-tech AI-based computational imaging startup. The acquisition enables IL MAKIAGE to use Voyage81’s patented hyperspectral imaging systems to further enhance the company’s machine learning capabilities. The acquisition is the company’s second technology acquisition within the last 24 months. Voyage81 develops patented software that brings hyperspectral imaging capabilities to smartphones; its software extracts over 30 channels of hyperspectral information from RGB images taken with existing smartphone cameras. Voyage81...Read full article

    Glossary
    computational imaging
Computational imaging refers to the use of computational techniques, algorithms, and hardware to enhance or enable imaging capabilities beyond what traditional optical systems can achieve. It involves the integration of digital processing with imaging systems to improve image quality, extract additional information from captured data, or enable novel imaging functionalities. Principles: Computational imaging combines optics, digital signal processing, and algorithms to manipulate and...
    hyperspectral imaging
Hyperspectral imaging is an advanced imaging technique that captures and processes information from across the electromagnetic spectrum. Unlike traditional imaging systems that record only a few spectral bands (such as red, green, and blue in visible light), hyperspectral imaging collects data in numerous contiguous bands, covering a wide range of wavelengths. This extended spectral coverage enables detailed analysis and characterization of materials based on their spectral signatures. Key...
    machine vision
Machine vision, also known as computer vision or computer sight, refers to the technology that enables machines, typically computers, to interpret and understand visual information from the world, much like the human visual system. It involves the development and application of algorithms and systems that allow machines to acquire, process, analyze, and make decisions based on visual data. Key aspects of machine vision include: Image acquisition: Machine vision systems use various...
    machine learning
Machine learning (ML) is a subset of artificial intelligence (AI) that focuses on the development of algorithms and statistical models that enable computers to improve their performance on a specific task through experience or training. Instead of being explicitly programmed to perform a task, a machine learning system learns from data and examples. The primary goal of machine learning is to develop models that can generalize patterns from data and make predictions or decisions without being...
