At the 4th Photovoltaic Fab Managers Forum, Semi PV Group Europe, a special interest group that serves the photovoltaic (PV) supply chain, announced the formation of a new European group for crystalline solar cells. The founding group, consisting of eight crystalline solar cell manufacturers—Q-Cells, Deutsche Cell, Bosch Solar Energy, Schott Solar, Sovello, Sunways, SolarWatt/Systaic Cells and Solland—is working together to address the technology challenges facing the PV industry. Named the European Crystalline Cell Technology and Manufacturing Group (CTM), it has established a crystalline solar cell technology roadmap up to the year 2020. The roadmap describes the development of crystalline solar cell technology, with a focus on materials, manufacturing processes and product development. Its main priority will be the definition and development processes for raw materials, and cell technology and manufacturing. Additionally, it will strive to strengthen European competitiveness in the global marketplace by improving efficiency and quality, while reducing cost. For more information, visit: www.semi.org
