Edmund Optics has named industry veteran James Fisher senior vice president of corporate development. In the newly created role, Fisher will lead business development strategies, mergers and acquisitions, and other strategic investment partnerships and activities, with a focus on global growth and expansion. James Fisher. Courtesy of Edmund Optics. Fisher served as the vice president/general manager of the Photonics business unit for MKS/Newport following MKS’ acquisition of Newport in 2016. He has more than 20 years of experience in the photonics industry, and he previously served as a member of the Edmund Optics board of directors. Additionally, Fisher is the named inventor on several optical component patents. Since the start of August 2021, Edmund has launched partnerships with Jenoptik, to become an authorized global distributor of Jenoptik F-theta lenses; TRUMPF, to become a global distributor for TRUMPF laser technology; and Everix, to provide global access to Everix’s ultrathin optical filter product line. In November 2020, Edmund acquired Quality Thin Films Inc. (QTF). The acquisition provided Edmund with a dedicated laser optics center. QTF was later renamed Edmund Optics Florida.
