ESL Lighting Tech Awarded Patent

SEATTLE, July 27, 2010 — Vu1 Corp announced that the US Patent and Trademark Office has issued a notice of allowance for a patent application for its ESL lighting technology. The mercury-free, energy-efficient, general illumination lighting technology manufacturer received US patent application serial no.: 11/969,840 for the system and apparatus for cathodoluminescent lighting, relating to the method of operation to create light via phosphor and a cathode, which is a component of the company’s ESL (electron stimulated luminescence) clean, energy efficient lighting technology. The allowance of the...Read full article

    Glossary
    cathode
A cathode is an electrode through which electric current flows out of a polarized electrical device. In different contexts, the specific role and behavior of the cathode can vary, but it generally serves as the site for reduction reactions (gain of electrons). Reduction site: In electrochemical cells, the cathode is where reduction occurs, meaning it is the site where electrons are gained by a chemical species. Electric current direction: The direction of electric current...
    luminescence
Luminescence is the emission of light that occurs without the involved substance undergoing a significant increase in temperature. In other words, it is the production and emission of light by a material or substance, often as a result of electronic, molecular, or atomic transitions. Luminescence is a broad term that encompasses various phenomena, including fluorescence, phosphorescence, chemiluminescence, and bioluminescence: Fluorescence: In fluorescence, a substance absorbs light...
    phosphor
A chemical substance that exhibits fluorescence when excited by ultraviolet radiation, x-rays or an electron beam. The amount of visible light is proportional to the amount of excitation energy. If the fluorescence decays slowly after the exciting source is removed, the substance is said to be phosphorescent.
