EO Technics, a Korea-based manufacturer of laser-based equipment for the semiconductor, microelectronics, printed circuit board, flat panel display and photovoltaic industries, announced it has acquired Powerlase Ltd. for an undisclosed amount. Powerlase, based in Crawley, West Sussex, England, is a developer of high-power, nanosecond, Q-switched diode-pumped solid-state lasers for the same industries EO Technics serves, as well as for applications in liquid crystal and plasma displays and the extreme ultraviolet and micromachining markets. The new company, Powerlase Photonics Ltd., will remain in Crawley and will retain the Powerlase and Starlase brand names. It will operate independently from EO Technics. Members of the current Powerlase management team will transfer to Powerlase Photonics, officials said. “Being part of EO Technics gives Powerlase Photonics the financial stability to continually provide new and existing customers with innovative, highly reliable Starlase products together with the outstanding customer support already associated with the Powerlase name,” said Les Lockwood, CEO of Powerlase. “We are confident that the talent and skills of Powerlase’s employees will further strengthen our position in global market,” said Kyu-Dong Sung, CEO and president of EO Technics.
