Millipore Corp., a high technology company that applies its purification technology to critical research and manufacturing applications in the bioscience and microelectronics industries, announced the election of Francis J. Lunger as president and chief operating officer by the Millipore Board of Directors. Lunger was previously senior vice president and chief financial officer at Oak Industries, a Waltham, Mass.-based manufacturer of active and passive components to the telecommunications industry. Spectra-Physics introduced two self-contained semiconductor laser systems for industrial applications in plastic welding, laser soldering, laser welding, heat treating and direct illumination. The Integra-MP and the Integra-AG are turnkey systems designed to provide cost effective solutions for industrial OEMs, the company said. Both products contain the laser, power supply, thermal management system and all associated electronics in a single package. 360networks announced the completion and lighting of a major network segment linking Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Sao Paulo, Brazil. The 1200-kilometer terrestrial route was completed within budget and is scheduled to enter commercial service in late May, the company said.
