PARSIPPANY, NJ, Jan. 17 -- DRS Technologies Inc. has been awarded a new contract from the US Navy to develop a Super High-Speed Video (SHV) Camera. It will be used for ground-based applications, such as munitions testing, to study events involving the release of munitions. The development of the SHV Camera will enhance the company's Airborne Separation Video System (ASVS) product line currently deployed for the evaluation of weapons release on board the Navy's F/A-18C/D and -18E/F Super Hornet aircraft during test flights. The video system is the only high-speed digital imaging system specifically designed and qualified to replace film cameras for airborne weapons separation applications, said DRS. The $2.4 million award for the SHV Camera was received by the company from the Naval Air Warfare Center's Aircraft Division (NAWC-AD) in Patuxent River, Md. The SHV Camera will provide significantly higher frame rate speeds than are used currently in both military and commercial high-speed digital imaging systems, said Mark S. Newman, DRS Technologies' chairman, president and CEO.
