CORNING, N.Y., April 9 -- Corning Inc. opened a $200 million clean-air products plant in Erwin, N.Y., this week. Production of large Corning diesel substrates began at the plant in January; by January 2005, Corning said it expects the facility to employ approximately 250 people there. New emission requirements for the diesel vehicle market are estimated to create an approximately $1 billion worldwide market for substrates and filters by 2008, Corning said. "The new facility will help meet this growing global demand, as it is designed and built to meet the specific large-scale manufacturing...Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaArticlesLuminate, Qubits Ventures Launch Quantum and Photonics Pitch Competition: Week in Brief: 09/02/2022Lidar technology company Cepton received a nonbinding letter of intent for an investment of up to $100 million from its long-term automotive Tier 1 partner and current shareholder Koito Manufacturing...Photonics.com 9/2/2022OFC Week in Brief: Tower Semiconductor and Teramount Partner: 03/10/23Tower Semiconductor and Teramount established a collaboration based on Teramount’s “PhotonicPlug” technology and Tower’s silicon photonic “Bump-ready” wafers,...Photonics.com 3/10/2023Jenoptik Breaks Ground on Dresden Fab: Week in Brief: 09/09/2022II-VI announced its corporate name change.
