Lynn Savage, Features Editor, [email protected]

Imaging and spectroscopy in the terahertz frequency range eventually will give troops a welcome advantage in the field. Terahertz waves are short enough to provide resolution of less than 1 mm, yet long enough to penetrate most nonmetallic substances, such as the materials used to make clothing, rucksacks and tarps. As such, they are useful to security agents and military personnel alike for revealing concealed weapons, chemical explosives and biological agents. Besides security applications such as airport screeners, higher-resolution terahertz sensors could provide enhanced...Read full article

    fourier transform
Any of the various methods of decomposing a signal into a set of coefficients of orthogonal waveforms (trigonometric functions).
    graphene
Graphene is a two-dimensional allotrope of carbon consisting of a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice pattern. It is the basic building block of other carbon-based materials such as graphite, carbon nanotubes, and fullerenes (e.g., buckyballs). Graphene has garnered significant attention due to its remarkable properties, making it one of the most studied materials in the field of nanotechnology. Key properties of graphene include: Two-dimensional structure:...
