CST Global has announced the successful sampling of its 1270-nm, 2.5-Gbps asymmetric and 10-Gbps symmetric distributed feedback lasers for 10-G passive optical network applications. “CST Global is currently beta sampling its asymmetric 2.5-Gbps lasers and alpha sampling its symmetric 10-Gbps lasers,” said Andrew McKee, technical director of CST Global. “The asymmetric beta samples, which are undergoing ITU-GR468 reliability testing, are available for customer trials in Known Good Die on Tape (KGDT) and TO 56 Can formats.” The asymmetric 2.5-Gbps, 1270-nm lasers allow the existing optical networking units, found at the user end of fiber-to-the-home broadband solutions, to be re-used. The symmetric 10-Gbps, 1270-nm laser option requires a new unit design before a large-scale uptake is expected, but the company says it is already in demand. “We are pleased to offer a solution for the two prevailing technologies in this growing market,” McKee said. CST Global is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sivers IMA Holdings AB. It develops, manufactures and sells chips, components, modules and subsystems based on proprietary advanced semiconductor technology in microwave, mm-wave and optical semiconductors.
