The US Justice Department has requested documents from JDS Uniphase Corp. and SDL Inc., both with headquarters in San Jose, Calif., in regard to its antitrust review of the announced merger of the companies. The companies announced a merger transaction in July valued at $41 billion. Rivals in the fiber optic communications markets, both companies said they would comply with Justice requests. JDS Uniphase went under similar scrutiny this year when it merged with another rival, E-Tek Dynamics Inc., also of San Jose.
