Ansys, TSMC, Microsoft Boost High-Speed Optical Data Transfer

TSMC and simulation software developer Ansys have completed a pilot with Microsoft that aims to speed the simulation and analysis of silicon photonic components. According to the collaborators, the successful pilot achieved over 10X speed-up of Ansys’ Lumerical FDTD (finite-difference time-domain) photonics simulation software via Microsoft’s Azure NC A100v4-series virtual machines. With NVIDIA accelerated computing running on Azure AI infrastructure powering the virtual machines, the collaborators said that the machines executed the simulations and identified optimal...Read full article

    integrated photonics
Integrated photonics is a field of study and technology that involves the integration of optical components, such as lasers, modulators, detectors, and waveguides, on a single chip or substrate. The goal of integrated photonics is to miniaturize and consolidate optical elements in a manner similar to the integration of electronic components on a microchip in traditional integrated circuits. Key aspects of integrated photonics include: Miniaturization: Integrated photonics aims to...
