Alcatel to Implement the First 80 Wavelength Transatlantic Optical System

Paris, Jan 15 -- Alcatel, vendor of optical networking elements, has announced a turnkey contract worth several hundred million dollars for a transatlantic network named Apollo that is being developed by Cable & Wireless, a global telecommunications business. With a total capacity of 3.2 Tb/s on each transatlantic leg -- 25 percent more than other systems -- the network will allow for the transportation of data between North America and Europe.
