SAN JOSE, Calif. - The 2002 version of SPIE's Photonics West gets under way on January 19, at the San Jose Convention Center. The show, which has become North America's largest commercial exhibition on optics, lasers, biomedical optics, optoelectronic components and imaging technologies, will provide attendees with an opportunity to see new technologies and applications across a variety of industries, production processes and products. In addition to the conference's major symposiums a technical exhibit with more than 600 exhibitors will be held from Tuesday through Thursday. Also on tap are a host of special programs including a plenary address by Presidential Science Advisor John Marburger, who was recently confirmed as Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy. Marburger's speech is titled "On Science and Technology in the War Against Terrorism." Along with the symposia, exhibits and awards ceremonies the conference also will be offering a full schedule of short courses, employment opportunities, product demonstrations and related activities. SPIE's Photonics West 2002 will be held Jan. 19-25 at the San Jose Convention Center.
