PerkinElmer Expands Digital Imaging Line with Acquisition of Sonoran Scanners Technology

BOSTON, May 21 -- PerkinElmer Inc. announced that it has acquired Sonoran Scanners' proprietary Laser Direct Imaging (LDI) and Computer-to-Plate (CTP) technologies. Sonoran was founded in 1997 and is based in Tucson, Arizona. This technology complements PerkinElmer's Digital Imaging and Lithography businesses, which manufacture Large Area Electronic Substrate exposure machines. Sonoran Scanners' LDI technology uses direct CTP printing to produce a precise image, while increasing yields and reducing the cost to the customer. This technology can be applied to the life sciences, communications and semiconductor markets.
"Sonoran Scanners' personnel are among the pioneers in the field of laser direct imaging," said John Engel, president of PerkinElmer Optoelectronics. "Combining their expertise in optical engineering with PerkinElmer's capability strengthens our digital imaging business and opens up growth opportunities in a number of new market applications."
