Health sciences and photonics company PerkinElmer Inc. announced today that it is acquiring Opto Technology Inc., a Wheeling, Ill.-based supplier of LED-based lighting components and subsystems, for an undisclosed amount. PerkinElmer said the acquisition adds optical subsystems to its portfolio of high-brightness LED components, strengthening the company’s ability to provide environmentally friendly LED products to OEMs through its Environmental Health business for medical, analytical instrumentation and industrial applications. “The addition of Opto Technology expands PerkinElmer’s presence in the solid-state specialty lighting marketplace and broadens the portfolio of LED subsystem capabilities that we can provide to our OEM customers,” said David Nislick, president of the company's Illumination and Detection Solutions business. “A core part of our mission has been designing energy-efficient lighting systems that make the world a brighter, healthier, safer and greener place to live.
