PSU Inks $25M Navy Contract
STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Sept. 28, 2007 -- The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Div. in Patuxent River, Md., has awarded Pennsylvania State University a five-year, $25 million indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract, the university announced today.
The major technical focus of the contract will be to support the development and transition of electro-optic technology (including fiber optics and photonics) for application in Naval Air Systems Command platforms, the university said. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), provides aircraft, air-launched weapons, electronic warfare systems, cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles and all other equipment related to Navy and Marine Corps air power.
The work, which the university said will benefit the US Department of Defense as well as industry, will be performed at the Penn State Electro-Optics Center in Freeport, Pa., and is expected to be completed in September 2012.
