Osram Opto Semiconductors said it will be closer to its customers in Asia -- particularly in China, Korea and Japan -- with new headquarters it opened in Hong Kong this week. Osram, a Siemens subsidiary, specializes in semiconductor technology for lighting, sensor and visualization applications. The new office, headed by Alfred Felder, CEO of Osram Opto Semiconductors Asia Ltd., will initially coordinate sales and marketing activities, Osram said. It has handled regional activities for its other business units in Hong Kong since 2006. “Choosing Hong Kong as our new regional headquarters reflects our long-term commitment to Greater China and the Asia market, which is open to innovative solutions in LED lighting,” said Ruediger Mueller, CEO. In July, Osram began building a second opto chip factory in Penang, Malaysia, that will open in Spring 2009, to help meet LED demand in the Asia-Pacific region.
