Photonic technology acceleration company Open Photonics Inc. and VTT Technical Research Center of Finland have partnered to commercialize VTT’s Fabry-Perot visible and infrared spectroscopy and spectral imaging technologies. Open Photonics has developed a commercialization model and linked VTT with business partners to bring the spectral engine technology to market, said Jason Eichenholz, CEO of Open Photonics. The novel imaging technologies enable size and cost reductions in the next generation of spectral measurement instrumentation and provide access to new wavelength regions key for future measurement and process control devices. VTT’s sensing platforms have been demonstrated in medical imaging, gas analysis, remote airborne sensing and process monitoring applications. “VTT’s strategy is to make business out of technology, and by collaborating with Open Photonics and leveraging their business and technological expertise in photonics, we expect to accelerate the commercialization of our optical sensing technology significantly,” said Howard Rupprecht, vice president of new business development at VTT.
