OTTAWA, CANADA--OZ Optics Ltd, a supplier of fiber optic products for existing and next-generation optical networks, announces a strategic investment in BlueBird Optical MEMS Inc. OZ Optics, with a group of founders headed by Professor Yael Nemirovsky from Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, has formed a new optical MEMS Company called BlueBird Optical MEMS (BlueBird). Nemirovsky is an IEEE Fellow and distinguished lecturer of the IEEE Electron Device Society. Additionally, Nemirovsky was twice acting head of the Microelectronics Research Center at Technion. The newly formed Company is developing and fabricating highly integrated MEMS-based subsystems using its patent-pending microstructures. In addition to MEMS technologies, BlueBird is developing the volume production capability for V-Grooves and gold-plated fiber. V-Grooves are used to create integrated optical components and gold plated fiber is used in hermetically sealable component packaging. "Yael and her team bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in MEMS and we view this investment as a key part of our corporate growth strategy. " said Omur Sezerman, president and Chief Executive Officer of OZ Optics. "In addition, BlueBird will also allow OZ Optics to better serve its customers in the near term by being a supplier of V-Grooves and gold plated fibers."
