NTT Photonics Orders Aixtron CCS Reactor

Aixtron AG of Aachen, Germany, a provider of deposition equipment to the semiconductor industry, announced it received an order for one Close Coupled Showerhead (CCS) 3 x 3 in. flip-top MOCVD system from NTT Photonics Laboratories in Japan during the second quarter of 2007. The system, to be installed in NTT Photonics Laboratories' cleanrooms, will be used to develop indium phosphide (InP) -based devices. Hiroaki Takeuchi, executive manager of the Advanced Optoelectronics Laboratory at NTT Photonics, said the MOCVD system "will give us the process flexibility, good uniformity in thickness, doping, and composition we need for developing next-generation optical and microelectronic devices."

Glossary
indium phosphide
Indium phosphide (InP) is a compound semiconductor material composed of indium (In) and phosphorus (P). It belongs to the III-V group of semiconductors, where elements from groups III and V of the periodic table combine to form a variety of important semiconductor materials. Indium phosphide is known for its favorable electronic and optical properties, making it widely used in the fabrication of optoelectronic devices. Key features and properties of indium phosphide include: Bandgap:...
nano
An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale. Nano-optics (also referred to as nanophotonics), for example, is the study of how light and light-matter interactions behave on the nanometer scale. See nanophotonics.
optical
Pertaining to optics and the phenomena of light.
optoelectronics
Optoelectronics is a branch of electronics that focuses on the study and application of devices and systems that use light and its interactions with different materials. The term "optoelectronics" is a combination of "optics" and "electronics," reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of this field. Optoelectronic devices convert electrical signals into optical signals or vice versa, making them crucial in various technologies. Some key components and applications of optoelectronics include: ...
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
