Memsic Inc. announced that Gary O'Brien, PhD, recently joined the company as vice president of engineering and will oversee all product design and development for its engineering teams in Chicago, China, and at its headquarters in Andover, Mass. O'Brien came to Memsic with over 14 years experience in the design and development of multiple sensor technologies including accelerometer, gyro and pressure sensors. He joined Motorola's Sensor Products Div. in Tempe, Ariz., as a mixed signal circuit design engineer in 1993. From 1993 through 2005, he developed multiple sensor systems for Motorola and its spinoff company, Freescale Semiconductor. O'Brien currently holds nine patents in the MEMS area and has generated multiple automotive accelerometer and pressure sensor/ASIC designs. He received a BS in electrical engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology, an MS in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. Memsic manufactures CMOS microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) integrated circuit products for sensors used in consumer and automotive applications.
