Mass General to Study CTI Breast Imaging System

PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 13 -- Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) will conduct a clinical study to help evaluate a breast imaging system made by Computerized Thermal Imaging (CTI). The system uses noninvasive thermal imaging technology that could help physicians differentiate between a patient's benign or malignant breast lesions, CTI said.

The study will begin in the fall and will be led by Kevin Hughes, a surgical oncologist at MGH, in association with Daniel Kopans, director of breast imaging at MGH and professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School.

CTI recently received notification from the US Food and Drug Administration that a Radiological Devices Panel has been scheduled in October to review, discuss and make recommendations regarding CTI's pre-market approval application for its breast imaging system. The American Journal of Roentgenology will publish clinical trial results of the breast imaging system in its January 2003 issue.
