SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 27 -- Lumileds Lighting announced it is shipping a warm white version of its high-brightness Luxeon light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The company said it is the first manufacturer to deliver a warm white emitter in production quantities.
The new LED will lead to wider use of LEDs in interior and task lighting, because it overcomes consumers' resistance to the cooler blue tones of conventional white LEDs, Lumileds said.
Luxeon warm white provides a color rendering index of 90, a correlated color temperature of 3200 K and an average light output of 20 lumens that is up to ten times brighter than standard LEDs, according to the company, and it is the first solid-state light source to closely match the black body illuminant spectrum across the visible colored range. These characteristics make it possible to create LED-powered luminaires that achieve lighting effects comparable to those produced with incandescent and halogen bulbs, the company said.
