MURRAY HILL, N.J., Sept. 26 -- Lucent Technologies Inc. said that it has won a contract potentially worth up to $40 million over three years to supply optical networking systems to Korea Telecom. Lucent will build a dense wavelength division multiplexing optical networking system to link five South Korean cities, Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon and Gwangju which will allow the company to offer a variety of services including high-speed data networking.
Korea Telecom plans to launch the services in December, according to a statement by Lucent. The 35 systems Lucent will initially deliver will have a capacity of 400 Gbs and can be upgraded to transmitting 1.6 terabits of information per second, Lucent said.
