MURRAY HILL, N.J., Nov. 14 -- Lucent Technologies has developed a software solution that will reduce provisioning costs for cable operators, digital subscriber line providers, broadband wireless operators and fiber-to-the-home providers, the company said. VitalAccess, an integrated multivendor software solution for broadband service providers to provision and deliver Internet access, multimedia and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services.
WINfirst will be one of the first customers to use the new VitalAccess solution as part of its $800-million agreement with Lucent for equipment, software and services to build a fiber-to-the-home residential network, which is currently under construction in the southwestern and western regions of the US.
A next-generation broadband IP provisioning solution will give us the competitive advantage critical to our ability to rapidly deploy and turn up services next year, said Rich Baughman, vice president of information technology at WINfirst. We believe that the flow-through provisioning engine within VitalAccess will help us streamline our service activation process so we can better meet the escalating customer demand for integrated broadband services.
The subscriber activation and management system can also help customers improve the accuracy and efficiency of service provisioning and empower end-users to manage their services, said Lucent.
