German specialty fiber manufacturer Leoni Fiber Optics, a subsidiary of Leoni AG, announced it acquired 90.2 percent FiberTech GmbH, a Berlin maker of quartz/quartz multimode fibers and custom fiber-optic cables for laser beam delivery systems, in November. The Leoni Group, based in Nuremburg, is a producer of wires, cables and automotive wiring systems. FiberTech makes specialty fiber for high-temperature, vacuum and nuclear applications; medical applications (surgical, ophthalmological, endovascular and custom-made probes); materials processing; avionics, aerospace and astrophysics; and spectroscopy for chemical analysis. It has subsidiaries in the US and Canada and distributors in Great Britain, Australia, Israel, China, Japan, Korea and India. FiberTech will be under new management. Its long-time CEO and majority shareholder, Wolfgang Zender, co-founder of the former CeramOptec Deutschland, left the company on Dec. 31. He will continue to support FiberTech in its South American fiber-optics market. The company’s new managing directors will be Andreas Weinert, managing director of Leoni Fiber Optics, and its former managing directors, Thomas Haupt and Thomas Heyer. FiberTech will continue to provide its customers with support and service. For more information, visit: www.leoni.com
