A new Center for Optical Technologies at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., will collaborate with other academic institutions and with companies to develop research, technology transfer, and degree and nondegree educational programs. Established with a $1 million grant from the Pennsylvania Technology Investment Authority, the Lehigh center will work with Penn State University, Northampton Community College and the Ben Franklin Technology Partners. Matching funds from the federal government will also supplement the grant. One goal is to attract and retain photonics students and professionals in the state.
