Lawrence Livermore National Lab Names Kim Budil Director

LIVERMORE, Calif., Feb. 8, 2021 — Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s (LLNL) new director, Kim Budil, will begin her new role March 2. Budil, replacing Bill Goldstein, will serve as the laboratory’s 13th director. She is the first female director in the laboratory’s 69-year history. 

Budil previously served as the principal associate director for Weapons and Complex Integration at LLNL. She has held management positions in the laboratory’s Weapons and Complex Integration, Global Security, National Ignition Facility, and Physical and Life Sciences programs.

The LLNL directorship is the laboratory’s highest-level liaison with the Department of Energy, the National Nuclear Security Administration, the Lawrence Livermore National Security Board of Governors, the University of California, and other government, public, and private organizations.
