A new 3-D printing center will provide various laser-based additive manufacturing services for various industries. Ultra Clean Holdings Inc. of Hayward, Calif., plans to open the center in the first quarter of 2015 after acquiring the privately held Prototype Asia LLC. The center will support stereolithography, selective laser sintering, direct metal laser sintering, fused deposition modeling and wax jetting. It will focus on parts optimization and re-engineering for weight reduction and material savings, as well as virtual warehousing and on-demand part printing for spare, rare and obsolete parts. Ultra Clean Holdings CEO Clarence Granger said the new center will have limited impact on the company’s 2015 financial results but will help expand its market reach. Ultra Clean Holdings develops systems and subsystems for the semiconductor capital equipment, flat-panel, medical, energy and research industries. For more information, visit www.uct.com.
