PLANO, Texas, Dec. 6 -- With the hopes of launching research projects that will solve bottlenecks in new broadband optical communication systems, LaserComm Inc. has set up a $2.5 million Photonic Research Center in the Atidim Industrial Park, in Tel Aviv, Israel. The company has appointed Moshe Tur as the research center's director.
We are very proud to have an eminent senior researcher of Moshe's stature joining our team, said Eduardo Shoval, LaserComm's CEO. Moshe brings years of experience with leading-edge photonics and fiber optic communications technologies. His involvement guarantees high-level scientific research, which is critical to achieve new breakthroughs in optical technology. We are confident that, under his supervision, we shall establish a leading photonic research center.
Tur will supervise 12 senior physicists in a number of applied research projects designed to increase LaserComm's core technologies and provide the company with future products. LaserComm will increase its investment in the new facility and hire 18 more senior physicists by 2003, the company said. LaserComm is a developer of optical communications modules designed to increase the performance and capacity of broadband fiber optic networks.
