Lancer Systems LP announced it has purchased the defense and fiber optics businesses of Greene, Tweed & Co. Inc., a maker of composites, fiber optic connectors, seals, elastometers, thermoplastics and other components for military applications. Lancer Systems was recently created by Green, Tweed's ownership to focus solely on the defense industry. It is co-located at Greene, Tweed's corporate headquarters in Kulpsville, Pa., where it will continue to operate until a facility it is building in Allentown is completed this spring, the company said in a statement. Lancer said it will use its materials relationship with Greene, Tweed as a platform to extend its presence in defense and fiber optics applications and that it will develop the businesses through its assembly and electronics packaging capabilities. Brian Hodges, president of Lancer Systems, said, "The purchase of these assets affords Lancer a unique and attractive opening to deliver more durable and valuable products to our customers. Lancer intends to focus intensely on aligning our business model with the needs of the defense and fiber optics marketplace to the benefit of all involved in this supply chain."
