LOWELL, Mass., April 23 -- Konarka Technologies Inc. announced it is collaborating with Oak Ridge National Laboratory to further development of Konarka’s photovoltaic products. Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which performs work for the US Department of Energy, has selected Konarka as its exclusive partner for research and development of chemistry related to solar cells.
Konarka develops polymer photovoltaic products that provide a source of renewable power for commercial, industrial, government and consumer applications. Konarka's photovoltaic nanotechnology is focused on delivering lightweight, flexible, scalable and manufacturable products.
"We are working with Oak Ridge to develop technologies that will improve our manufacturing processes and lower the cost of our third-generation, flexible photovoltaic materials," said Russell Gaudiana, PhD, vice president, research and development at Konarka.
Nobel Laureate Professor Alan Heeger (UC Santa Barbara) is a chief scientist for Konarka and Michael Gratzel (Ecole Polytechnic Federale de Lausanne) is a senior scientific advisor.
