Jerry Coder Appointed SEMI Chairman

SEMI announced the appointment of Jerry Coder, president emeritus of the semiconductor materials business unit of Dupont Electronic Technologies, as chairman of the industry association's international board of directors. Coder, a 40-year veteran of the semiconductor industry, succeeds Archie Hwang, chairman and CEO of Hermes-Epitek, who served a one-year term. Coder has previously served in various SEMI leadership roles as chairman of its finance committee and as a member of various executive committees. At the annual SEMI membership meeting, held Wednesday during the Semicon West 2007 exposition in San Francisco, the association's membership also elected to the board: Susumu Kohyama, president and CEO, Covalent Materials; Kiyoshi Togawa, senior vice president and executive officer, Hitachi Chemical; Way Tu, CEO and president, Allegro Manufacturing; and Kazuo Ushida, director and senior executive officer, Nikon and president, Nikkon Precision Equipment. Winning reelection were: Andre Auberton-Herve, president and CEO, Soitec; Douglas Neugold, CEO, ATMI; Mary Puma, chairman and CEO, Axcelis Technologies; Stephen Schwartz, chairman, CEO and president, Asyst Technologies; and Mike Splinter, president and CEO, Applied Materials. Terry Higashi, chairman and CEO, TEL; Atsushi Horiba, chairman, president and CEO, Horiba; and Hwang were voted ex-officio board members.
