IntelliSense, Corning to Collaborateon MEMS Technology

CORNING, N.Y., Mar. 3 -- Corning Inc. and IntelliSense Corp. have entered into a joint development agreement to design, develop and fabricate optical-communications products based on micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology. Under the terms of the agreement, Corning has made an equity investment in IntelliSense; financial details were not disclosed.
In commenting on the agreement, Fariborz Maseeh, president of IntelliSense, said, We are pleased to be partnering with the market leader, Corning, which is world-renowned for its innovation, and research and development expertise. We are looking forward to a successful collaboration in the development and deployment of revolutionary, MEMS-based communications products.
Charles Deneka, Corning's chief technical officer, stated, IntelliSense is an ideal partner because of its leadership in MEMS design software, its fabrication capability and its expertise in optical technology. Mark Newhouse, Corning's business manager of optical networking devices, noted that the company sees MEMS as an enabling technology in the development of a number of photonic devices that could be deployed in the optical layer.
