FORT WAYNE, Ind., April 22 -- ITT Industries Inc. Aerospace/Communication Div. (A/CD) will upgrade 12 global positioning system (GPS) Block IIF satellites for Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, under a contract with a potential value of up to $31 million.
The satellites will be modified with two new transmitters and power amplifiers, modulators and converters to create a flexible power system that can be used to resist jamming. Work will be performed at A/CD's Clifton, N.J., facility and is scheduled for completion in 2008.
"This is great news for our GPS team and for military users of GPS who will be able to call on the system for increased power when they need it most," said Lou Dollive, ITT Industries' A/CD president. "This modernization effort is part of the government's continuing effort to sustain GPS as the global standard for navigation and timing services."
