Harris to Supply Raptor Fiber

MELBOURNE, Fla., Aug. 21, 2007 -- Harris Corp. has received a five-year, $30 million follow-on contract from Lockheed Martin to supply high-speed fiber optic network components for production lots 7, 8 and 9 of the US Air Force F-22A Raptor aircraft program. The award brings the total value of the program for Harris -- (lots 1 through 9, plus annual options for additional equipment and services) to more than $280 million since 1991.

The F-22A Raptor, which replaced the F-15, is the Air Force's newest fighter aircraft. In addition to the high-speed fiber optic components, Harris provides the fiber-optic lab test equipment for the program, as well as the aircraft's data acquisition unit (DAU).

In addition to production work for the F-22A Raptor, Harris is developing advanced avionics for the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, including image processing and digital map software, multifunction data links, fiber-optic network interfaces and avionics infrastructure elements such as integrated avionics racks, power supplies and module components. The F-35 will replace the A-10, the AV-8 Harrier, the F-16 and the F/A-18.

"The F-22 Raptor represents the future of air combat dominance, and Harris is pleased to supply its advanced fiber-optic network technology for this nationally important program," said Sheldon Fox, president of Department of Defense Programs, Harris Defense Communications and Electronics.
