Hans Stork Named CTO Silicon Systems at Applied
Hans Stork was named chief technology officer (CTO) and group vice president of Applied Materials Inc.'s Silicon Systems Group (SSG), effective today. Stork, most recently CTO and senior vice president of silicon technology development at Texas Instruments Inc., will be in charge of Applied Materials’ silicon technology equipment and will oversee integrated technology development for silicon products and coordinate SSG’s industry and university engagements. “With Hans joining SSG, we are reinforcing our commitment to meeting the technology needs of our customers and advancing the semiconductor technology roadmap,” said Mark Pinto, senior vice president, corporate chief technology officer and general manager of the Energy and Environmental Solutions Group. Pinto will remain corporate CTO, focusing on cross-company strategies and pursuing new technology and business opportunities. Stork has 25 years of experience in the industry, including several technology advisory positions. He was named an IEEE Fellow in 1994 and is on the boards of Semiconductor Research Corp. and International Sematech. After receiving his doctorate degree at Stanford University, in 1982 he joined IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center, where he led efforts in advanced silicon germanium bipolar technology research and its transition into manufacturing. Before joining Texas Instruments, Stork was director of the Internet Systems and Storage Lab at Hewlett-Packard in California. Applied Materials is based in Santa Clara.
