Guido Bonati to Manage Jenoptik Laserdiode
Guido Bonati is a new managing director at Jenoptik Laserdiode GmbH, as of July 1, succeeding Hermann Voelckel, who has retired and will act as an adviser to the company. Siegfried Schmallowsky will continue to manage the company's commercial, human resources and controlling departments. Jenoptik Laserdiode also said its Laser Solutions business will be merged into JT optical engine GmbH + Co. KG, a joint venture with Trumpf, after customary approvals. Trumpf has had a 25.1-percent share of the company since 2001. Bonati joined Jenoptik Laserdiode in 2001, responsible for product development and funded projects, and was named managing director of Jenoptik Laser Solutions GmbH in 2005, directing new laser technologies, primarily fiber lasers. He studied mechanical engineering at the RWTH Aachen, specializing in laser, design and flow engineering, and received a doctorate at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology, Aachen, working with solid-state lasers. He began his career at Rofin-Sinar Laser GmbH and later joined Spectra-Physics (now part of Newport Corp.) in the US as a project leader. Jenoptik Laserdiode has been part of the Jenoptik Group since 1993. In 1995, its offices were relocated from Wiesbaden, Germany, to Jena. In 2002, Jenoptik Diode Lab GmbH was founded in Berlin-Adlershof for the manufacturing of semiconductor base material, working with Jenoptik unique-mode, a Jena-based developer of laser-diode products for health-care markets.
